Baby Bonnet

Pattern Designed and Written by Ranee Mueller




Materials:

1 skein Lion Brand Microspun
size 6 needles
size E crochet hook (size D for smallest size)
3 rosettes or decorative buttons


Gauge:

22 sts & 30 rows = 4 inches on size 6 needles


Size:

For baby up to 6 months


Notes:

To make for preemie, use size 4 needles and knit to 2 inches before shaping back. 1 ball of yarn makes at least 4 or 5 bonnets.


Instructions:

CO 60 sts

Knit 6 rows (garter stitch)

Row 7: K
Row 8: P

Cont. in St st until piece measures 4 inches. End with WS row.

Shape Back:

Row 1: *K5, K2tog. Repeat from *, end K4 - 52 sts.

Row 2 & all other WS rows: P

Row 3: *K4, K2tog. Repeat from *, end K4 - 44 sts.

Row 5: *K3, K2tog. Repeat from *, end K4 - 36 sts.

Row 7: *K2, K2tog. Repeat from * to end - 27 sts.

Row 9: *K1, K2tog. Repeat from * to end - 18 sts.

Row 11: *K2tog. Repeat from * to end - 9 sts.

Row 12: P


Cut yarn, thread through rem sts, draw up tightly to close and sew in end to secure. Crochet chains of about 50 sts on either side of garter band for ties.

Weave in all ends. Block lightly. Sew on rosettes or other embellishments, evenly spaced, above garter st band.
